Project: Update to Invision 5 This book contains information about updating our website from Invision Community 4 to Invision Community 5. This project will start in November 2025 after the iLRN2026 academic submission deadline and well before the iLEAD submission deadline in January 2026. Project Information Invision Community , our community management website provider, released a new version of their platform in February 2025. Invision 5 Release Message: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/481409-invision-community-500-released/ As they say in the message above, "We are currently in the soft release phase to help us manage the influx of feedback from those choosing to upgrade." It looks like they are making updates rapidly from customer feedback. Invision 5 Release Notes: https://invisioncommunity.com/release-notes-v5/ They released version 5.0.12 at the beginning of October and the 5.0.13 Beta 2 released at the end of October. There are lots of great features in the new version such as: Pages rollback feature Quests Better support for mobile They have a forum where they post updates and customers can talk about Invision Community 5. Invision 5 Forum: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/forum/528-invision-community-insider/ Invision will continue to support the version we are using now. From the message: "And we would encourage you to plan your upgrade carefully. Version 5 is not a normal upgrade, it's a brand new platform with many significant changes including how themes are created, how widgets and blocks are managed and it comes with a brand new editor. We still be supporting v4 for quite some time with important bug fixes and security updates." One of the big changes to the editor is that you will not be able to switch back and forth between the source HTML and WYSIWYG mode. The editor no longer allows editing the HTML code except for dedicated HTML blocks. New Editor and HTML: https://invisioncommunity.com/forums/topic/482534-ic5-html-editor/ Because we will be updating the live site, it is important for us to identify any issues and fix them as soon as possible. Invision does offer the option of purchasing a staging server, which we investigated, but found to be too costly. From the resonses they made to other people in the forums, it is clear that they would prefer not to provide a staging server for situations other than larger, enterprise-level clients. Volunteer Information After the update of Invision Community from version 4 to 5, it is important for us to review the site, locate any pages where the update has caused problems, and fix them as soon as possible. We would like to request volunteers from within iLRN to help with this process. How to Volunteer If you would like to help with this project, please follow these steps. Contact  michael@immersivelrn.org to volunteer for the website update project and request an immersivelrn.org email address if you do not have one. Only people with an immersivelrn.org email address are allowed to edit the iLRN Codex. Using your immersivelrn.org email address, create a new account on the iLRN website at https://www.immersivelrn.org . You will be added to an email group for the website update team. You may send messages to this group to ask questions or alert others about errors. Volunteer Expectations There will be a list of website pages in the task list. Volunteers should select a page to review, look for issues, and report back with any errors they find. Pages should be reviewed for the following items: Formatting issues Missing images Invalid links Outdated information Of course it is also appreciated if you find errors in spelling or grammar. As issues are found, they will be prioritized and fixed. If you have some experience editing web pages and would like to help with fixing problems, please let us know so that we can train you on the moderator functions of the Invision Commuinty website.
