Overview & Workspace
This project page provides the single-source overview of the 4th State of XR & Immersive Learning Report. It hosts the working structure for synthesis, progress tracking, and coordination across all regional chapters and the Indigenous XR Special Call. This page anchors the project in its mission and provides tools for contributors to work together efficiently.Manage, synthesize, and prepare the global environmental scan into a unified 2026 report. This book functions as the coordination hub and final showcase space, weaving together the five regional scans and the Special Call on Indigenous XR into a coherent narrative for iLRN 2026 in Athens.
iLRN is launching the 4th State of XR & Immersive Learning Report, the next cycle of our global Immersive Futures initiative. This year’s effort is significantly expanded: we are running a coordinated, multi-regional scan; issuing a scholarly Call for Papers and Simulations; and integrating community-generated data into a comprehensive, peer-reviewed publication to be released in early 2026.
From now through December 2025, educators, researchers, designers, practitioners, and innovators across our five Continental Regions are examining developments that define the current moment in immersive learning. Together, we are tracking emerging technologies, pedagogical shifts, cultural and environmental signals, and applications across education, workplace learning, and public engagement.
Throughout November and December, participants can engage in:
-
Weekly horizon scans inside our Continental Hub Discord channels
-
Cross-regional discussions comparing practices, technologies, and methodological insights
-
Signal identification across educational, cultural, industry, and societal domains
-
Collaborative sensemaking that informs the structure and priorities of the 2026 report
In January 2026, regional teams and iLRN Chapters will synthesize their findings into short geographic reports. Contributors to these syntheses will be recognized as co-authors in the published Immersive Futures: State of XR & Immersive Learning 2026 report.
A Special Call for Indigenous-Led XR Contributions is also underway. Indigenous scholars, Elders, designers, youth, and community partners are invited to share protocols, land-based practices, storytelling approaches, and sovereignty-centered immersive projects. These contributions will be featured prominently in the final report and highlighted at iLRN2026 (online and in Athens).
