As they say in the message above, "We are currently in the soft release phase to help us manage the influx of feedback from those choosing to upgrade." It looks like they are making updates rapidly from customer feedback.

They released version 5.0.12 at the beginning of October and the 5.0.13 Beta 2 released at the end of October. There are lots of great features in the new version such as:

  • Pages rollback feature
  • Quests
  • Better support for mobile

They have a forum where they post updates and customers can talk about Invision Community 5.

Invision will continue to support the version we are using now. From the message: "And we would encourage you to plan your upgrade carefully. Version 5 is not a normal upgrade, it's a brand new platform with many significant changes including how themes are created, how widgets and blocks are managed and it comes with a brand new editor. We still be supporting v4 for quite some time with important bug fixes and security updates."

One of the big changes to the editor is that you will not be able to switch back and forth between the source HTML and WYSIWYG mode. The editor no longer allows editing the HTML code except for dedicated HTML blocks.

Because we will be updating the live site, it is important for us to identify any issues and fix them as soon as possible. Invision does offer the option of purchasing a staging server, which we investigated, but found to be too costly. From theirthe resonses they made to other people in the forums, it is evidentclear that they would prefer not to provide a staging server for situations other than larger, enterprise-level clients.
