About the Thirsty Scholar Debate Hall
The Thirsty Scholar Debate Hall is a community gathering space designed for lively discussion, debate, and intellectual exchange in an informal, café-like atmosphere. It serves as one of the primary social venues on the iLRN virtual campus, hosting regular programming that brings the community together around shared interests and the big questions in immersive education. This location will hopefully be the site of many fruitful discussions in the spirit of the University of Glasgow (a former host) and its lively public meeting spaces!
The FrameVR space features a stylish café interior with curved seating arrangements, colorful ceiling elements, and an intimate layout that encourages conversation. The space is directly connected to the Circle of Scholars location via a door, and the two spaces are used in tandem for programming.
The Thirsty Scholar currently hosts the Digital Well-being 3D Book Club, run in partnership with A.T. Stills University, on the second Friday of each month in the afternoon. Beyond the book club, this space is also home to community debates on the pressing questions in immersive education — from how we define immersion itself to the role of specific technologies to the transfer of skills learned in virtual environments to the real world. Community members are invited to sign up to participate in or lead debates on topics that matter to the field. See the campus calendar for specific details and upcoming debate topics.
